Chinese Music Series - Pipa
Pipa is an ancient stringed instrument that originated in ancient Persia and was introduced to China via the Silk Road. The pipa has four strings and is usually played with fingers, but can also be played with a plectrum. Its timbre is soft and melodious, capable of expressing rich emotions. In traditional Chinese music, the pipa is a commonly used musical instrument, and is often used in performances such as ancient tunes, folk songs, and Peking opera. With the passage of time, the playing skills and repertoire of pipa have also been continuously enriched and developed.
