Grand Piano Touch: Grand Feel Compact Wood-Key Action
The CA59 is the latest Kawai digital piano, featuring a class-leading Grand Feel Compact wooden key keyboard action. As the name suggests, the GF Compact keyboard is designed to recreate the true touch-weight characteristics of the industry-leading Grand Feel keyboards in a smaller form factor.
This action retains the long wooden bar used for all 88 black and white keys, as well as the familiar "seesaw" mechanism that has been used in acoustic grand piano actions for centuries. However, despite its smaller unit size, the GF Compact has a longer key pivot length, providing a more consistent touch weight when strumming toward the rear of the keyboard. This key detail, along with various other acoustic-piano-like features, ensures that the CA59 offers the most realistic playing experience in its class.
bass key weight
In addition to graded weighted hammers, Grand Feel Compact keyboard actions feature weights attached to the front of the bass keys. As with an acoustic piano, these finely balanced weights help lighten the touch of the keyboard in soft passages, while adding a more powerful feel when played hard.
Triple sensor key detection
Grand Feel Compact keyboard operation employs a precise triple-sensor key detection system for enhanced playing realism.
The addition of a third sensor improves responsiveness when the same key is played repeatedly, and unlike traditional two-sensor keyboard operation common in many digital pianos, it allows the sound of individual notes to be gradually "layered" without loss previous tone.
In addition, Kawai's motion technology monitors the velocity at which each key is lifted, affecting the release characteristics of the piano's sound and providing a greater range of expression between staccato and legato playing.
Ivory key surface
The impressive CA59 comes standard with Kawai's highly regarded Ivory Touch keytops. The finely textured material gently absorbs sweat and oil from fingertips to help control playing, and has a natural matte finish that's smooth without slipping.
Plus, this moisture is absorbed so no dirt or grease seeps into the surface, and the keytops can be easily wiped clean with just a damp cloth.
The most authentic digital piano keyboard action in its class, the Grand Feel Compact even reproduces the "hands-off" character of an acoustic piano action.
This subtle "notch" feel can be felt when the keys of a grand piano are played very softly, and experienced pianists can use it to help control when playing extremely soft passages.
The Sound of a Grand Piano: Three World-Class Instruments
Earning the title "Top Pianos in Japan", Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions around the world, acclaimed for their exceptional tonal clarity and outstanding dynamic range.
The new CA59 captures the grandeur of two top Shigeru Kawai instruments: the flagship SK-EX Concert and the mid-sized SK-5 Studio grand piano, allowing musicians to enjoy the contrasting characteristics of each instrument.
In addition, CA59 is also equipped with the unique tone of Kawai's highly acclaimed EX concert grand piano, which has been repeatedly selected by professional pianists in international piano competitions such as Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rubinstein.
All three instruments use proprietary Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology through a complete 88 Key samples are faithfully reproduced, setting a new standard for digital piano sound quality.
